Jun 08, 2011 · Heat-treatment results (hardness, microstructure, properties) are dependent on such factors as the exact material chemistry, part section thickness and the method of heat treatment. For 4130 steel, the recommended heat treatment consists of heating to austenitizing temperature, typically 1600°F (870°C), followed by water quenching.
4140 is a 1% chromium - molybdenum medium hardenability general purpose high tensile steel - generally supplied hardened and tempered in the tensile range of 850 - 1000 Mpa (condition T).4140 is now available with improved machinability, which greatly increases feeds and/or speeds, while also extending tool life without adversley affecting mechanical properties. 4140 P110 Steel Bar Supplier Eaton Steel Bar Company4140 P110 Heat Treated SBQ Bar. Hot rolled 4140 P110 steel bar is a medium-carbon alloy steel that has a high hardenability. P110 refers to a heat-treated condition which has favorable mechanical properties and impact resistance.

After quenching, the hardness is between HRC55~58 and the limit value up to HRC62. In order to make the steel performance stable, it should be processed and placed for 15-20 days before the use. The highest hardness for practical application is HRC55 (high-frequency quenching HRC58). It is a high-quality carbon structural steel with low hardness. Jun 11, 2014 · If your steel did nothing with water quench, you have to consider that what you have is not 4140. 1018 will be soft if you do what you did. Actual 4140 will show some hardening affect if you just heat it to 1550 F. and air cool it. When measuring the hardness by the back-jumping method, the hardness value represents the size of the metals elastic deformation function. 4 Commonly used hardness Brinell Hardness. A hardened steel ball or hard alloy ball with a diameter of D is used as the indenter, and the corresponding test force F is pressed into the surface of the test Rockwell Hardness Guide What it is, How to Measure, & The reason all steel product manufacturers use the Rockwell hardness scale is that it allows uniformity in reporting test results. Everyone in the steel industry recognizes the Rockwell hardness scale. They quickly know steel strength from a glance at its Rockwell rating. The Rockwell system is universally accepted as a hardness baseline.
SAE AISI 4140 Alloy Steel. SAE 4140 (AISI 4140 steel) is a Cr-Mo series (Chrome molybdenum series) low alloy steel, this material has high strength and hardenability, good toughness, small deformation during quenching, high creep strength and long-lasting strength at high temperature. 4140 Steel Uses. AISI SAE 4140 alloy steel can be made into round steel bar, flat & square steel bar, steel Speedy Metals Information for 4142 Pre-Hard Cold Roll Steel4142 CFHT is a chromium-molybdenun alloy steel that has been hardened to 27 to 32 Rockwell C and is ready to use while still machinable and of exceedingly high strength. The chromium content provides good hardness penetration, and the molybdenum imparts uniformity of hardness and high strength. 4142 resists creep in temperatures up to 1000° F
